Complex news

What's happening this week? Well our Christmas decorations are going up in the shop and we have a real Christmas-sy feel about the place at the moment. The weather is still relatively mild and the greens team are out cutting again today. And as it is a new month, we move onto the second course for the Winter League, but more about that later.

Although the Loyalty Card has been around a Panshanger for a while, it perhaps isn't well known about or publicised. So we will be displaying posters up and around to prompt you to get one. The benefit is that you only have to play five rounds to get a 6th round FREE. So the team will hand them out when you purchase a round of golf, if you don't receive one please just ask.

Coach corner

So last week we discussed practicing if you have time and with a specific goal in mind. This week:

Practice stations

The pictures below show three types of practice station that I have either used or get my students to use. The first is 'The Arrow' which works on ball position and swing path. The second is 'The Cross' probably the most well-known and this is for alignment and ball position. The third is 'Tee Time' where two tees give a visual 'gate' for someone working on an in-to-out swing path and getting the ball to start right of the target.

They all have their reasons but whatever one you use it is to get you more consistent at something. This could be anything from set-up, ball position or swing path. Consistent practice equals more consistency on the golf course.

Changing views/position when practicing

In an ideal world, how much would you like the practice field or driving range you use to be empty? Of course you would. But would you use the whole length of the range, and by that I mean hitting balls from more than one bay and giving you different visuals and so you don't become intimidated with a certain shot?

One of the great things you can achieve on our Performance Simulator is that exact feeling. You can either change views on the range setting or, as I have done here, change my position to hit shots into the same green from the same distance away but from different points. From the 'left' side of the hole I am playing a shot over the water to a tight flag then by changing to the 'right' side of the hole I am playing down the full length of the green, but now the water is on the left. So by changing my position it is making me change my view of a shot and my practice session doesn't become one-dimensional.

You can purchase a practice package for only £75 and this is for 10 hours practice! Get in touch here.

Winter league

Congratulations to James Cooper who shot a nett 78 to win the first round of the Winter League. James wins a dozen Srixon Z-Star golf balls and an hour's session on the simulator. This month we move onto Congressional Golf Club, the scene of Rory McIlroy's US Open victory. This is a great course! This week's Vlog is the second round between myself and Luke with a special guest, our Head Professional Daniel Fitzsimmons.

Check out the video above to see how we got on.

Next month we are going to try broadcasting the Winter League Vlog live using Periscope. Watch this space and follow us on Periscope @panshangergolf where hopefully we will launch our first broadcast from a very special location north of the border!

Club news

Sun 29 Nov - Sunday saw the club's Turkey Trot take place which is a 3 clubs and a putter event. The winner on the day was Ian Hanson with 37 points, one point ahead of Geoff Walker in second place.

Mon 30 Nov - The Seniors' Medal 3 took place at the start of this week. Division One was won by Ron Brazier's 36 points, four more than George Tight carded to claim Division Two.

Wed 2 Dec - Graham Tillier, Alan Baldwin, Linda Roberts and Sarah Marsh won the Christmas Texas Scramble on Wednesday. In second place was Tom Burke, Henry Mackay, Paula Tillier and Shirley Berry. The seniors' Nearest the Pin was won by Terry Crawley; Jan Bryant winning the ladies event.

Academy news

Again it was great to see a couple of my students doing well in club competitions this week. Ron Brazier picked up a second victory in as many weeks and George Tight was close in second place. It just goes to show how even one lesson can make a great deal of difference. Terry Crawley is getting to grips with his new custom-fitted irons and picking up the Nearest the Pin prize with his new Titleist AP1 irons.

This week I have a full evening of coaching on Thursday night and it is proving very popular. I may start looking at Monday nights as well if the demand is there.

If you are thinking about what present to get the golfer in your family or you want to drop some hints for yourself, I have vouchers for lessons that are available and remember I am still offering 4 lessons for the price of 3 which is £90. So pop in for your coaching Christmas vouchers.
