The first two weeks of October have been very good for the golfing community. Lots of sunshine and relatively mild temperatures. Let's hope this continues, however we all know the British weather has a habit of changing at any moment.
Don't let this stop you playing golf! All you need to do to carry on playing great golf in the autumn and winter months is to prepare and have the right clothing and layers. We have some great autumn/winter stock that has been delivered this week.
First up is waterproofs. These don't necessarily have to be for playing in the rain - I normally wear my waterproof bottoms when the ground is wet and it's easier to clean waterproof trousers rather than normal trousers!
Waterproof jackets these days aren't bulky and restricting, but light, thin and made of breathable material. We have PING waterproof suits for £119.99 with a three year waterproof guarantee!
Under your waterproofs it's all about layers. Any thick material will limit your range of motion so make sure when layering up do so with thin breathable layers. To go under your waterproofs we have quarter zip fleece tops, also from PING, that are showerproof and provide wind protection. Finally from PING we have some polo shirts in three different colours priced at £29.99!
Some other accessories that we have in stock ready for cooler days are winter mitts and beanies along with waterproof 'bucket' hats! From Glenmuir, packaged in presentation boxes, are neck warmers and micro fleece hats, great for yourself or a present or prize to give to someone.
We also have some of the latest winter ranges from FootJoy. Ahead of this winter why not keep your feet secure with their new FootJoy Boot? Don't let your hands slip on your grips either with FootJoy's Wintersof and RainGrip gloves.
Don't use your studs or grips as an excuse this winter
As we approach the winter months it is a good time to MOT your golf equipment. Have your studs worn away over the summer? We not only sell studs but can change them for you as well.
How are your grips? Do you need some, or the set, replacing? The big putter grips are not only great for the summer but great in the winter when you may lose a bit of feel in your hands. The big grips take the hands out of the stroke and you get a more consistent stroke.
Work to the greens and tees
This week the course has undergone some work on the greens and tees. On the greens we have 'micro-tined' which is smaller puncture holes to aid with drainage. On the tees we have hollow-tined. This is exactly the same as the micro-tinning but with bigger holes. The holes have already recovered and with the amount of rain we had, this week has come at the right time.
GPS Buggies - Stage Two
Early on in the year we spoke about the GPS on the buggies. Stage two is now up and running and we can now monitor where the buggies are allowed to drive (and where they have been). We have restricted certain areas on the course, mainly around the greens and bunkers but also some of the wetter areas and slopes that we want to protect.
So what happens if you drive in the restricted zone? Firstly, you will get a warning saying to move away or it will say where to drive to. If you fail to follow the instructions the buggy will cut out! You will then need to REVERSE the buggy away from the area and then you will be able to drive forward again but staying out of the restricted zone.
Why have we gone to this level of technology? We are a forward thinking golf course and a lot of our golfers are always asking why can't we have buggies out in the winter. Well this will enable us to keep the buggies out for longer periods of time during the winter and enabling you to carry on playing golf. If, however, we do get serious amounts of rain and it is for a safety reason then we will have times when the buggies will not be allowed out. This should be the minority of the time though.
